General Discussion / Re: Djokovic
« on: 16 January, 2022, 05:50:38 AM »
Maybe Boris has finally realised that you can fool some of the people some of the time but...  I find it quite surprising how so many of us on the sidelines saw through him from day 1, yet so many Brits were fooled - just like Trump and 130 million seppos! He and Boris (and Australia's Scumbag Morrison) are living proof of the old adage that "bullsh*t baffles brains" - but thankfully not forever! Maybe they get away with it because they're in the faces (metaphorically speaking) of their constituents all day every day, thanks to the media!
Btw, I've edited this post to make it clear I'm talking about Boris and his fellow politicians, despite the subject line saying "Djokovic". Looks like another case of "SBP": sidetracked by Pam!  8)

Dunno what "pop" is, but it must be good if you all went from having Covid to not having it!!!  Good luck to Simon - tell him to be careful at the airport on arrival as there are literally hundreds of expats who left Vietnam yesterday after free tourist visa extensions were discontinued, and a lot of them booked flights with Scoot and now can't get past Singapore (airport) because Scoot doesn't have some paperwork to use the airport despite (I thought) being a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. Maybe I got that bit wrong. Anyway, lots of angry/disappointed expats were given just one week to leave Vietnam and are now stuck in Singapore airport!

"Game, set and match - Australia!"  Now wait for some macho chest-beating "Our border rules apply to everyone" from SloMo to try and put the whole sorry shambles behind him before the May election...

Dead right, Pam - I can't stand the typical Eton-educated "I'm superior to you lot" clown who's never had to do a real day's work in his life. And the very fact that he continues with that ridiculous 'exploding haystack' hairstyle is a permanent reminder to everyone that he really doesn't care what anyone thinks anyway!
Dunno how BJ got into office - but then the same applies to the USA's orange retard Trump and Australia's "Smirk & mirrors" Morrison. As if the pandemic wasn't bad enough, we've had to live with these three clowns as well - no wonder the world's on its last legs! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

Further evidence now coming to light, where Djokovic claims "mistakes" and "errors of judgement" by his "team" and himself. Sounds like his biggest error of judgement was hiring whoever it was on his team who thought they could get away with such a blatant lie as saying he hadn't been anywhere in the preceding 14 days when evidence to the contrary was all over the internet - and since when were travellers allowed to let someone else complete their arrival forms anyway? Far too many discrepancies for me, so I now agree with Pam - SEND HIM HOME!
Here's the latest rundown from Oz media (12/01/22): https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2022/01/12/novak-djokovic-visa-statement/?utm_source=Adestra&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=PM%20Extra%20-%2020220112

Tend to agree with you, Terry - but we can't be sure we know the full story because there's an election downunder in 1Q2022 so the whole Djokovic thing has been conveniently turned into a political football, and there ain't much truth, if any, in politics! But from our perspective of having this trip to VN expand from the planned 4 months to just three weeks short of 2 years as I type this, it's not a good thing either way because, if Djokovic wins, the Oz gov't will make dam* sure no one else gets into the country unless they've ticked every one of the millions of boxes that will surely join the multitude that already stop so many of us from returning (and I'm not even talking about the $600 per person one way airfares that suddenly became $5,000 pp but hardly rated a mention in the media!).
On the other hand, if Djokovic loses, then the Oz gov't will flaunt their "win" as an example of how they're "protecting Australia's borders" - with the upshot being that they'll add even more boxes to be ticked, just to make sure no one can win and undo all their good work!
I'd personally like to see Djokovic lose because he's an arrogant so and so, but the exact same description can be applied to Oz PM Scomo (aka Scumbag) - so it's a case of "B*ggered if ya do, and b*ggered if ya don't"!!! Ain't politics wonderful................  ::) ::) ::)

General Discussion / MESSAGE FOR STEVE ICETON
« on: 11 January, 2022, 01:05:19 AM »
Apologies for the 'shouting' headline but just wanted to catch the attention of Steve Iceton or anyone who may be in contact with him to encourage him to contribute any of those "mainly J troop" photos he mentioned on the GB for posting in the galleries on this site. He can make initial contact via the email links under the Guest Book or Message Board buttons on the Home page if he's having problems navigating into the MB. If anyone is in contact with Steve, please relay this message to him - many thanks!

Good luck with the lateral flow test, Pam. Let us know how it goes. On the subject of Covid I have to say I'm alarmed at what appears to be complete mismanagement of the Omicron variant's arrival downunder - to the point that I feel we are much safer staying here in Vietnam where (apart from a few noisy expats complaining online about their loss of freedom), they fully accept that the way to stay safe when an airborne virus is attacking everyone in sight is to get vaxxed, stay home, stay covered, stay apart and stay clean. In Australia and other so-called "advanced economies" the governments seem to have bowed to the biggest noise, ie anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, anti-anything at all'ers - now already revealing a growing tragedy that should have been obvious from the outset even to "blind Freddie"!

General Discussion / More photos (Lee? Pam?)
« on: 04 January, 2022, 03:02:05 AM »
Lee and/or Pam: I just noticed Steve Iceton, J troop 63-65, has posted on the GB and reckons he's got an album "full of photos". It might be worth trying to contact him to see if he'd like to contribute any photos not already in the 208 gallery?

Thanks Lee, you're doing a grand job and I hope you enjoy the learning curve - sooner you than me, that's for sure!

No mate, nothing received as yet - maybe Santa didn't get double-vaxxed so they wouldn't let him in! Ho ho ho!  ;D ;D ;D

G'day Martin (Bienvenu) - welcome to the new MB. Do you still live in the Channel Islands? Don't suppose you know Richard (Dicky) Drieu from Guernsey? He's an old skydiving mate now living in Brisbane (or wherever he might be on his boat).

Excellent - best of both worlds: public messaging and private emailing at the click of a mouse, what more could anyone ask for!
And I was looking for a "go back" icon but couldn't find one so tried the one in my browser (<- and -> in top LH corner) - works a treat so don't have to keep going back via the "Home" icon anymore!
Now I'm gonna look for all those posts against various members' names that show on the Members List - oh what fun! Hands up anyone who didn't guess that we don't celebrate Christmas in Vietnam so, between lack of religious festivals and Covid lockdowns, we've got plenty of time on our hands!

General Discussion / Emailing MB members?
« on: 22 December, 2021, 03:16:38 AM »
Don't know about anyone else, and it's maybe an indication of my being a "boomer", but I like email for the ability to directly target those people you specifically want to talk to with a particular message. Wouldn't it be great if we could do the same thing from this MB, ie chat away on this forum but, if the situation arose (as it sometimes does when we get 'sidetracked'), just send an email to a smaller, more relevant and interested audience for the newly-introduced subject matter.  Or even to just email specific members about something we just thought of while browsing the MB, but don't think it will interest everyone.  Or maybe the Zuck et al have already invented something like that but I just don't know about it yet?
