General Discussion / Re: FInding People.
« on: 03 November, 2021, 11:40:49 AM »
Darryl Kajewski has never been found.  He seemed to be a popular chap because a few people have looked for him.  It is a shame that many of these ex army people have no interest in finding each other.  I always kept in touch with Tony after he left Terendak and he often used to ring me up from his work, using their phones. This was before mobiles. Actually he was the brains behind me being  able to find people because he has a superb memory.  Don't remember how I found Ernie or Alby.

I can't remember much about my arrival in Singapore, I remember the flight because an army wife with 6 kids relaxed while a young soldier had been commandeered to help her.  I remember stopping off at Columbo for a break and being knocked over by the heat as we got off the plane.  Wish I knew which airport I landed at, it was not swish like Changi so maybe it was Payer Leybar.  I should have written a diary like I did during my first holiday to see my son in Singapore in 1995.  I made it in to a booklet to bore my children after I arrived back.  Mostly I would like to find the famiies I knew but I haven't found anyone really except the Warings and Barbara MacPhail (Royal Pioneer).

I have emailed Jim Howe who was in Alpha Troop and a friend of Ernie's.  Ernie hasn't heard from him for years, he is in the South East and came to our Hexham reunion.

They lived opposite Sam and I on Stevenson Avenue. I fell out with him after he asked for Darryl Anderson's email address and then refused to let me give his to Darryl. So I told him off.  I never contacted him again which is a shame since he was from my home town of Dewsbury (a horrid place) and I should keep in touch with him.  I will ask Mary Waring if she knows his email address.  John Waring was with the Kiwis , I think Lee was with them as well, at some point.

I used to be friendly with John and Mary Waring.  He wouldn't allow her to keep in touch with people when they left a posting.  I found Mary on Facebook, sent a short message but I don't expect a reply.  She was very friendly with Ann and Gordon Firth who were from my home town, but I have since left it - thank the Lord.  I used to be in touch but he is rather like John W in that they don't keep in touch with old friends.  Anyway it is a start.  Gordon Firth was maybe there when you were Martin, but maybe I am wrong.

;D I had to laugh at my query regarding Martin having five little squares and me only having one.  Did you wring your hands in exasperation at that?  I think I will be keeping my head down and not shouting or reprimanding any one.  We are all grown ups, says she, after asking why she didn't get as many squares as Martin!!! :-[

I have made mine smaller and not quite such a defiant stance.  I now have to add the required number of wrinkles or life lines then I will replace it.  By the way font size showing up beautifully.

Off topic but I emailed Teresa today about a TV drama called COBRA - it is a politics thing about a disaster.  The chap playing the UK PM is Robert Carlyle, I think he was in Train Spotting. Anyway both Teresa and I thought he looks like Tony so I thought that I would tell her.  He was more like Tony when he was acting in his younger days.  I don't know whether she will come on here or even look at the website but I wanted to include her.  She occasionally came on before.  He has moved in to Hexham town now. I will give Alby Simpson a nudge. No reply from Ray Jordan yet

I use Edge, I was ages refusing to use it but I gave in. I like it.  I used to use Firefox for years.  I will go on Edge settings and see if I can make the font bigger.  My emails are small fine as well so that needs fixing.
