It does look good but the font size is way too small. Is it possible to set the font size as a default?

Ken, it is apparently illegal to turn back boats, that is according to maritime law.  It must be costing a fortune to house these poor souls in hotels but they  set fire to ex army barracks that they consider to be not fit for purpose. The UK have given the French 51 million pounds to help stop the flow.  It is an awful problem.  It may not be our welfare system which encourages them to come here. Many of them have family already here and maybe language plays a part.

The world news is upsetting I agree so I try to just concentrate on what is happening in England.  I say England because I am sick of moaning Scots and can't wait for them to get out of the union.  I may be in the minority here but Nicola Sturgeon angers me so much.  I am also glad that we have joined with the US and Australia and left the French out of it.  Suppose that I am an awful person with my views so many of you will disagree with me.

General Discussion / Re: Avatars on this MB

Regarding avatars.  I see that my work in progress avatar us up at the top.  I like it but there are not enough wrinkles and crows feet and I look positively bursting with health and vitality. The hair is a reasonable reproduction of my present colour so I will keep that.

As a result I will be looking round for a more appropriate facsimile of myself but cartoon/emojis for the elderly don't seem to exist. Another little niggle. The font size is far too small for me to see even with my cataract operation improved eyes.  ;D

Oh I see when one can see the post I have just done, it enlarged the font and was super.

Wow it opens straight away, lovely.  Still using same yahoo email address until I can get myself a cheap copy of Office.  But I have loved using Office 365 but the support was minimal until I really got angry.  Problem not solved though. :-\

With regard to my post about 800 migrants arriving in one day....   I have no problem with welcoming the poor frightened Afghans.  What it must be like to know you will live in Taliban's version of Sharia law.. Women will be OK if they obey Sharia law... what the heck will that be like.  I would like to research and see what it entails.  I think the UK is taking 20k but this is over 5 years I think.  Councils have to be able to prepare accommodation etc.,  schools will have to be got ready.    :-[

General Discussion / I'm not Racist but...

On Saturday 800 migrants arrived in 30 boats from France. This is after we handed over over 50 million pounds to the French to control the situation.  Apparently the smugglers used confusion tactics to throw the French off balance.  Where are we expected to put these poor souls?  They complained because Napier Barracks (somewhere in the South) was not good enough and if they are not happy they set things on fire.  But they complained after the do-gooders and bleeding hearts brigade said that it was disgusting to put them in army barracks. Most of the migrants who arrive are young men with just a few families.  Anyway I have got that off my chest.   >:(   >:(

Sorry you are missing reunions but surely it will all be over soon.  I am hoping to see Simon at Christmas, in fact he is going to book to fly on the lovely Singapore Airline.  I flew with them once and it was lovely, but 13 hours is a bit too long to be in the skies.

Are we the only ones who come on here or is everyone busy?  Must see if I can persuade Ernie to come on.

General Discussion / Re: Lockdown #5

We are apparently free as from yesterday but most people will continue wearing masks. I vowed some time ago that I would not venture on to public transport.  Boris old foe, the vengeful Dominic Cummings, is at it again telling all.  If I was an employer I would not employ him ever.  Most people take him for what he is a chap riddled with fury at being sacked so he is getting his own back.  >:(

I hear on the BBC World Service that house prices in Sydney and Perth have risen enormously during this pandemic.  Also inflation is a problem in the US.  Not sure what has happened here except booing at the the Euro football match and the general racism being experienced by young black English players.  I was going to message Steve and ask who he was voting for in the Denmark/England game.

Why can't this MB be as busy as the last one we had?  It is so hard work! :-\

General Discussion / The is better

I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the site opens up now, Lee has obviously been working at it.  We open up on the 19th July which is called Freedom Day but I fear that is too quick with the Indian variant doubling all the time.  My nephew (daily Mail journalist)  went to Wimbledon on a freebie, and caught covid.  He is only isolating until the 15th July and has only had one jab.

Is everyone OK?  I am off out to eat tomorrow so I hope I am OK.

Cheers everyone ;D

General Discussion / Re: Indian Variant
« on: 18 May, 2021, 01:56:49 PM »
Now a thousand cases and many of the older Indian residents refuse to have to vaccine. This is terrible that our recovery could be scuppered by these people. It makes my blood boil.  Many of the black people who refuse the vaccine think that the government  have put a chip into it and maybe that it will make them infertile!

General Discussion / Indian Variant
« on: 08 May, 2021, 01:25:19 PM »
There are now 500 cases of the variant in UK.  It is Indian workers returning, maybe students etc.  Singapore are having the same problem with returning Indians.  It could stop him coming for his annual holiday, Singapore is also on out green list of places we can go to. But I will never be able to set foot there again, which upsets me.  I dream of wandering down Orchard Road, visiting the Marina Bay area, and swimming daily in the condominium pool.  My arthritis is a damned nuisance and I can't think of any thing to make it bearable. Maybe if I insisted they might try and make things better, just to be able to meet my daughter in Manchester for a shopping trip would be super.  Anyone else have these kinds of problems and do you have any tips????
