My new 'Hash House Harriers' avatar looks good - thanks Lee! We're all waiting now for our lockdowns to be eased sufficiently to let residents go outside and exercise so we can get back to "Hashing" around the local mountains again - it must be getting closer because our infection numbers are plummeting thanks to 'prisoner-like' lockdowns for the past 3 months.
And now I can see that when we use the emojis we initially get a text indication but once the post has been actioned it auto turns into the relevant emoji so all good! I'm doing a 'big smile' emoji now, which I see as 'semi-colon D' but you'll see as a big smile - magic, huh!  ;D

Regarding avatars.  I see that my work in progress avatar us up at the top.  I like it but there are not enough wrinkles and crows feet and I look positively bursting with health and vitality. The hair is a reasonable reproduction of my present colour so I will keep that.

As a result I will be looking round for a more appropriate facsimile of myself but cartoon/emojis for the elderly don't seem to exist. Another little niggle. The font size is far too small for me to see even with my cataract operation improved eyes.  ;D

Oh I see when one can see the post I have just done, it enlarged the font and was super.

The link below could suit - I searched 'Google', for 'wrinkled old lady'

https://www.istockphoto.com/illustrations/cartoon-of-a-wrinkled-old-lady

There is obviously a lot out there. ;D ;D ;D ;D

You could change the search terms as you please.

Okay Folks, It's time to get adventurous with avatars.
The standard size for Avatars is 100x100 pixels at 450 pixels/inch. The MB is tweaked to automatically resize down to that size if you try and display a huge image.
Users are free to upload and display whatever they think appropriate for them - keep it nice folks.

Avatars should not be photo quality images of themselves or a member of their family. This site is not the most secure of the web, and those who are of a mind to try and rip people off can work wonders with a name, a location, a birth date, and an image, using facial recognition software

This how to add or change your Avatar:

Login using your 'username' & 'password'
mouse-over 'Profile' then click 'Forum Profile'
mouse-over 'Modify Profile' then in the 'Personalized Picture' section
'Browse' to the required filename (in the Explorer-like window) and select it,
Then Select the 'Upload an Avatar' radio button.

At this stage you can scroll to the bottom right corner of the page and click on 'Change Profile' - You will get a green box indicating successful changes applied.

You can add/change other info as you see fit,  ie. Personal Text; ??Birth date??; ??Location??; ??Gender??; Website title - 208 Signal Squadron; and Website URL - https://www.marsden.me.uk There are two options for the last two items either none or both.

These fields are not mandatory.

Have fun guys. My phone number is unlisted 8) 8) 8) ;D ;D ;D

I have made mine smaller and not quite such a defiant stance.  I now have to add the required number of wrinkles or life lines then I will replace it.  By the way font size showing up beautifully.

I gave an incorrect instruction in my post regarding adding Avatars

The line which starts "mouse-over 'Modify Profile' then......"
should start "click 'Modify Profile' then ....."

Sorry about that

Just reading Lee's instructions for changing profiles again and noticed "birth date" in the list of things that can be changed - so I tried it again because we'd previously discussed and found it to be not updateable (if that's a word!). And I'm here to tell ya that it's STILL not updateable!!!
I'm gonna dig around the avatars in the hopefully near future to see if I can find something new because Covid has made a complete mess of the Vung Tau Hash House Harriers as local social distancing rules have been relaxed to allow people to exercise once again (after five months of not being allowed outside), but don't permit more than 2 people to exercise together, and many stalwarts have left for greener pastures, so we're not likely to start again anytime soon - and to be honest, I'm more into helping Sunny with her homework now than running around the local mountains and then trying to drink the bar dry! So I'll hopefully find an avatar that looks as old as me but has a far more mature outlook on life!  ;D ;D ;D

Just thought this avatar would be more appropriate at this time of year!

Thanks Lee - and will hopefully update the pic soon as Sunny drew this year's "Merry Christmas & Happy New Year" card this morning. Problem is that we've spent so long at home on lockdowns that I probably won't be able to find a shirt!!! Stay tuned... (as I'm sure you will)!

Hi Pam, There are Avatar related instructions in my post (on this topic) dated 18/10/21.

There is one change, the text should be as follows:
quote:
Login using your 'username' & 'password'
mouse-over 'Profile' then click 'Forum Profile'
Click 'Modify Profile' then in the 'Personalized Picture' section
'Browse' to the required filename (in the Explorer-like window) and select it,
Then Select the 'Upload an Avatar' radio button.

At this stage you can scroll to the bottom right corner of the page and click on 'Change Profile' - You will get a green box indicating successful changes applied.

You can add/change other info as you see fit,  ie. Personal Text; ??Birth date??; ??Location??; ??Gender??; Website title - 208 Signal Squadron; and Website URL - https://www.marsden.me.uk There are two options for the last two items either none or both.

These fields are not mandatory.
unquote:

Hope this helps. BTW are you going to use the photo that I 'photoshopped' for you?

Cheers
Lee

Not my business Pam (and see separate post mentioning avatars in the "Welcome back..." thread), but your "defiant" avatar looks pretty good to me - and definitely looks like the photos I've seen of you!

Perhaps we should 'photoshop' it to add a 'middle finger salute' ;D ;D ;D

Pam, my apologies, I did read your post and I found the image and then completely forgot to email it to you. Now I have to find it again - hang in there :'( :'(
