There's a rule of thumb in real estate - if your place has shot up in value - the once cheaper alternatives ain't so cheap anymore either... Price of houses and apartments suburban Melbourne have sky-rocketed - median is around $1 million now. Homes in country areas, once a much cheaper alternative, have risen exponentially as budget-minded buyers have been forced to 'look out of town' for somewhere more affordable.

Mr. and Mrs. Public have more chance of getting back into Oz from overseas, than trying to get into Queensland or Western Australia from New South Wales or Victoria. Double-vaxed and Covid free tests make no difference. If you come from Vic or NSW, forget it  ;)

Reckon the the French are more than happy to see them become the UK's problem, Pam. Guess reason the immigrants don't want to stay in France is because the social welfare system there isn't as generous as yours... If Boris was serious he'd turn the boats back towards France. Or Africa maybe...  :)

General Discussion / Guest Book Issues?
« on: 16 September, 2021, 10:36:19 PM »
For some reason I can't access the guest book from either my PC or Mac. When I try I get:
"...Hmmm… can't reach this page208-signal-sqn.123guestbook.com refused to connect."
Does anybody else have the same problem?

Looks like we're the only two on here, Pam.
Well, September's reunion is screwed now, too. Widening outbreak of Delta in NSW and here is bad news for potential travel. Understand that Canberra is also under lockdown. is the UK still allowing international flights in?

General Discussion / Lockdown #5
« on: 19 July, 2021, 12:21:20 PM »
Presently in a State-wide lockdown thanks to the Delta variant of Covid escaping into Victoria. We are restricted to within 5km of our place of residence. And there are only five reasons to be away from it: care giving, essential work, education if it cannot be done from home, for medical reasons, and to get vaccinated... The lockdown was supposed to cease any 2400hrs this evening - but has now been extended due to increasing infections. We won't find out how long it may continue, until tomorrow morning.

Hi Pam, the site opens really quickly now. Lee has done a terrific job. Well done, Lee!

Hi Pam
Not just Sydney and Perth. House prices in metro Melbourne have skyrocketed. The median is now $1 Million plus. Country house prices have also 'gone thru the roof' as people seek to move away from suburban Covid-19 lockdowns. Experts have put the price-rises down to record low interest rates. And they predict that many folks who've borrowed excessively, risk certain mortgage foreclosure when interest rates do rise again - and they most certainly will. Thanks to this year's Covid-19 State Border closures, I've already missed two out of three national Army reunions. The third - my Vietnam Battalion's final national reunion in Canberra, in September, is also under threat from the latest outbreak in NSW. So, my fingers are firmly crossed.

General Discussion / Re: Indian Variant
« on: 28 May, 2021, 01:01:05 AM »
Same here Pam,

Our dopey Federal Government, against all advice and common sense, is allowing dual passport holders as well as Australian citizens, to return here from India. And many of these folks travelled from here across to India in spite of warnings that they may not be able to return at their convenience. Some of their more outspoken people started screaming 'Racism' and our jelly kneed Government caved in.

What all the saner heads said would happen - 'that the Indian Covid strain would escape into the community' - did

And would you believe, this is all because one of these Indian returnees, in the process of being released from quarantine in South Australia, contracted the Indian Covid Variant from another newly-returnee from India. And this person, who flew back into Victoria, has since infected more than 30 people, that we know of, in a wide spread of suburban locations, which means the likelihood of many more infections are on the way.

As a consequence, the State of Victoria went into a 7 Day Hard Lockdown from 2300 hours last night.

This has seriously teed me off. There's a National Signal Corps Reunion in Townsville, Far North Queensland, from 16-19 June. It was postponed from this time last year because of Covid-19. All my airfares, etc. etc., are already paid for. However Due to the Indian Covid spread and lockdown here, Queensland has closed its border to Victorians. If it opens before the 16th, and we're allowed to travel there, the likelihood of having to quarantine for 14 days is more than possible. This all means my chances of attending this reunion are rapidly shrinking to zero. And I'll be about $1k out of pocket...

Not at all happy.

Hi Lee and Pam

Still slow to load - 2min 27sec on my Win Desktop. But can live with that. My MacBook (Safari) simply times out at the 10-12 minute mark.
Pretty quiet here, just heard that WA has gone into lockdown thanks to Indian travelers coming in with their particular Covid variant...

I can feel some more State Border closures coming on...

Just what we need with our 2020 Jun and July Army reunions being put off to June and July 2021, in Townsville, QLD and Tweed Heads, NSW respectively

 8) :)

Thanks for you patience, determination and hard work. Lee. Still slow to load/reload. But them's the breaks, eh.
I'm using my HP Win Desktop to access the Board, as neither my MacBook nor iPhone will load it (time out after 10 minutes). Got me perplexed because I thought it might have been my AV software. However, I'm running the Win version of the same AV program on here...Ha!
Another one of life's mysteries

Cheers
