Pam,
Sticky Topics/Threads are always at the top of the list of Topics/Threads presented when you click on General Discussion just after you login.

Sticky and 'Normal' topics are sorted on most recent post - top to bottom. Sticky Topics are treated as their own list.

There you go Pam, now you have 5. You will notice on the Forum welcome page below the title 'General Discussion', the board Moderators are listed ie. MR and PamMcD.
You just earned 4 more little squares ;D ;D ;D

Seriously, please be very careful when wielding your Moderator sword. There are literally thousands of small 'help Q&A's' on the Web, to guide you when you are trying to achieve something ie. warn somebody; ban somebody; whatever; ......... etc. Some damage may be irreparable.

Using your preferred search engine, preface your search terms with 'SMF'.
eg. SMF How do I change my avatar?

The people, out there, providing the Answers to your Questions may, probably will, paint with a very broad brush, and may assume that you are an experienced SMF forum user/Moderator/Administrator. Please don't shout back at them when they do not appear to understand your question, or you cannot understand their answer. Emojis work wonders when setting the tone of a conversation. Take the time to look at the date that any of their previous answers were provided, you might be surprised how long this software has been around.

On top of all of that, varying versions of SMF will have varying menu/click/mouseover sequences, to achieve a given task. We are using SMF 2.0.18 should you want to include it in your search terms.

Finally, if you should wish to involve other Moderators/etc. in your search for answers, be sure to provide a link to the page that you are looking at, so that all concerned can refer to the same page. There is also good reading on the Web regarding the powers of Users, Local Moderators, Global Moderators, and Administrators. Consult Dr Google, Duck Duck Go, Yahoo, etc.

I gave an incorrect instruction in my post regarding adding Avatars

The line which starts "mouse-over 'Modify Profile' then......"
should start "click 'Modify Profile' then ....."

Sorry about that

The link below could suit - I searched 'Google', for 'wrinkled old lady'

https://www.istockphoto.com/illustrations/cartoon-of-a-wrinkled-old-lady

There is obviously a lot out there. ;D ;D ;D ;D

You could change the search terms as you please.

Pam, the displayed font size is a function of the browser you are using.

Personally, I use Firefox. What are you using? I'll see if I can find out how to vary the Browser Settings, if possible, I'll pass on instructions.

The French do not need any help from the OZ PM to feel humiliated. Let's face it, the French have done little on the national pride front since Bill the Bastard came knocking in 1066.
Their current titular head, I use the term loosely since my comments are not allowed the be disrespectful, derogatory or, dare I say it, racist, is probably their worst 'leader' in living memory.

The delimiter may be forward slash 8) 8) /8)

That didn't work as expected. There must be qualifier/delimiter to show that text should be displayed.

What if I am, God knows why, writing a formula '64 divided by 8' = x - I really don't want (64/8) = x, maybe I've got to use parentheses {64/8} = x

That was exciting wasn't it? ;D ;D ;D ;D

Emoji Test - Yes. When I click on Cool Dude, when composing, the text is "8)". When viewed after posting the emoji is displayed.

Failed miserably - I tried to change M#R to MR - SMF would not let me do it because I had previously, tried to register MR as a username, but the inoperative email subsystem did not send the email to enable the account. Now the MB remembers that there should be an account called MR but regrettably nobody can see it to delete it.
On the plus side I can, if you wish, change the display name for account linhmartin to, and this is where Martin has to get creative, (MR, M#R, and MartinR have all been used so will be unavailable). Please let me know, per email, what you will settle for as a Display name. Further you will have to trust me with your password/passphrase for linhmartin. Only Administrators can perform this operation, do you want to be one?

I'm not sure this level of complexity is what this message board was intended for. but we do what we can.

General Discussion / Re: Lockdown #5
« on: 23 July, 2021, 06:09:18 AM »
These lock-downs are getting tiresome  >:( >:(

We, the great unwashed, are being 'led' by a bunch of inept political operators  whose sole aim (regardless of political persuasion) is to get re-elected.
Their decisions are all driven by 'medical advice' given by 'chief medical officers' - quite a useful wall for the political animals to hide behind.

I am not entirely convinced that the medical experts are totally across this virus and its morphing mechanisms. 14 days incubation period seems a bit convenient to me.

Apologies, this is a bit 'off topic'.
What I am convinced of is that country of less than 30 million souls needs three levels of government. It  is time the states (and territories) were dispensed with.

Rant over. I look forward to any comments (pro or con) on both topics.

Cheers Lee
